[Personality]
Cain C. Hargreaves is a noble-born young man. At first glance he may appear as a typical Victorian noble youth who has just come into his inheritance. Maybe just somewhat eccentric, due to his poison collection and his meddling in mysteries occuring in London. He is also likes giving the image of a playboy, openly flirting with different girls, politely but openly. His lifestyle is that of a noble, having servants to tend to his household and needs.

However, despite Cain apparently having all he could want or need, he is a sad count. While he has material possessions, he doesn't have many living family members. As a child, he was ignored by his "mother" and abused by his father. Cain found out that the reason for this was because he was a child born from incest. It is said that it's the reason why his green eyes are tinged with gold. At that time, he was able to meet his real mother, Augusta Hargreaves, however, she committed suicide upon seeing him and believing Cain was her brother Alexis.

One notable trait about the young Count is the hatred he feels for his father. As a young boy, he used to accept his father's beatings as a "proof of love". It was only when he learned that he's an incestuous child, he has grown to hate him. Cain faces off his father several times, every time becoming slightly stronger, but not fully able to finish him off. He shows some insecurities whenever he sees him, feeling disconcerted afterwards, his scars aching with the reminder of his "love".

Because he fears those who get close to him will be hurt, he tends to distance himself from everyone. One of the reasons for this is that Alexis cursed Cain to never be loved in all his life when the young boy attempted to poison him. While Cain appears to be flirty and a ladies' man, he is in fact a very lonely person. Those women he loved or was closely connected with were taken from him by his father and his secret association. This gives him another reason to hate the senior Count Hargreaves. To avoid more people he cares about being hurt, he has dedicated his life to solve mysteries surrounding Delilah, Alexis and his half-brother Dr. Jezabel Disraeli.

However, during his life, he has gotten close to a few special persons. There was one person who was always close to him: his butler Riff. This man was assigned to take care of him, and Cain comes to trust him more than anyone else in his life. He is the only person Cain can open his heart to and just be himself, without fear of being judged. Riff is the only one who knows Cain's secrets. It is also implied that Cain's feelings for Riff might be more than just platonic. While it is usually Riff who protects his master, Cain's worries for him too, and would do whatever he can to keep him safe.

Mary Weather Hargreaves (née Duke) is another person who has managed to find a way into Cain's buried heart. He found Mary in the streets, and adopted her as his little sister, believing them to be half-siblings. In truth, Mary isn't really related to the count by blood, but he adopted her nevertheless, and appointed her as his heir. She quickly becomes fond of her adoptive brother, and the same is true for him. He clearly adores her, and spoils her a bit with gifts. All he wishes is to keep her safe. Both of them are extremely protective and possessive of each other. Mary usually gets jealous when Cain flirts with women, and Cain hardly approves of Oscar's advances towards Mary. Of course, this also has to do with the fact that his little sister is still just a girl.

Overall, Cain can be described as a lonely and heartbroken man, on a quest to find love and get rid of the hatred in his life. While on the outside he appears as a confident man, he struggles on the inside with the curse he believes lies in his blood. He doesn't allow just anyone to get close to him, but he values those he loves above anything else, even his own life. He wouldn't hesitate to give his life to make sure the people he cares for are safe. He is a true and loyal friend, as well as a loving brother. He can sometimes be a bit of a brat, being still a young man from a noble family. There is a bit of a dark side to him, but he is essentially a good man.
